Retired Military officer, others reportedly kidnapped by gunnmen
A retired army officer, Col. Lawal Rabi’u Yandoto (rtd), has been kidnapped alongside many others by unknown gunmen in Zamfara State.
The retired army officer was kidnapped on Sunday evening, while on his way to Yandoto, his home town in the Tsafe Local Government Area of the state from Gusau, the state capital.
The Daily Post reported that a source said the bandits also kidnapped two of the man’s children and two other people with him.
The source said: “The bandits ambushed the rtd. Col. at around 6:00 pm on Sunday evening and kidnapped him along with his two children and two other victims.”
He explained that there were sporadic gunshots very close to Yandoto town, causing the people to flee. He said Yandoto’s abduction was noticed after the bandits left and his car was found empty.
As of press time, the state police spokesperson, SP Muhammad Shehu, could be reached for official statement on the incident.

The embattled former Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, has declared himself the authentic Speaker of the House, saying he has resumed his position as the parliament leader.
Obasa made this known on Thursday after returning to the Assembly Complex under the protection of police and State Security Service operatives.
“I’ve resumed, and I remain the Speaker of the Assembly,” Obasa said.
It was his first time back since his removal on 13 January 2025.
Obasa arrived at the complex with more than 11 police officers and headed straight to the Speaker’s Office, ignoring his colleagues who were seen deliberating in the Assembly’s garden before his entrance.
His return follows a dramatic turn of events at the Assembly, where the security details of the new Speaker, Rt. Hon. Mojisola Meranda, were reportedly withdrawn.

The Sultanate Council has formally declared that the hunt for the new moon of Ramadan 1446AH will begin on Friday, February 28.
The Wazirin Sokoto and Chairman of the Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs, Professor Sambo Wali Junaidu, encouraged Muslims to look up at the sky on Friday in anticipation of the new moon in a statement issued Thursday.
He instructed those who spot the moon to report their sightings to the nearest District or Village Head.
Once reported, the sightings will be relayed to the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, who also serves as the President of the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, for a formal declaration.
