Reaction as Human Right Lawyer writes Embassies seeking visa ban against Force PRO, family
A coalition of Nigerian lawyers has sharply criticized activist and lawyer Deji Adeyanju for submitting a petition to foreign embassies, calling for a visa ban against Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Olumuyiwa Adejobi and his family, accusing him of human rights violations.
The petition, which was sent to several international diplomatic missions, has sparked a wave of condemnation from legal practitioners, who argue that Adeyanju’s move is a clear violation of legal ethics and professional conduct.
Legal experts argue that Adeyanju’s actions contradict fundamental principles of the Nigerian legal system, particularly the Rules of Professional Conduct for Legal Practitioners, 2023.
They assert that by bypassing domestic judicial channels and seeking punitive measures through foreign governments, Adeyanju has demonstrated a disregard for the proper legal process.
In a joint statement, the group of lawyers expressed their outrage, labeling Adeyanju’s actions as “astonishing” and “malicious.” They emphasized that his petition undermines the very foundation of due process, rule of law, and social justice in the country.
Further condemning his approach, the legal experts have called on senior members of the profession to conduct a thorough investigation into Adeyanju’s conduct. They have urged disciplinary action if necessary, to protect the integrity of the legal profession and ensure accountability.
