President Tinubu’s former Defence Minister, Badaru clears air over alleged closed door meeting with Kwankwaso

Former Minister of Defence, Muhammad Badaru Abubakar, has dismissed claims that he recently held a private meeting with the National Leader of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, insisting that circulating images are old.

The clarification was made in a statement issued on Saturday and signed by Mati Ali, his Personal Assistant on Media and Publicity.

The response followed widespread circulation of a photograph on social media allegedly showing the two political figures after a closed-door engagement.

Reacting to the development, the statement said, “We wish to draw the attention of the general public to a photograph currently circulating on social media platforms, which falsely suggests that the former Minister of Defence, His Excellency Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, held a meeting with the National Leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party and 2023 presidential candidate, His Excellency, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, at the VIP Wing of Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.”

The former minister explained that the image being shared is not recent, noting that it dates back to February 18, 2023, when both men coincidentally encountered each other at the VIP Wing of the airport.

Providing further clarification, the statement added, “We also wish to inform the general public that the former minister has been overseas for the past month and has not returned to Nigeria.”

The statement concluded by urging members of the public and social media users to ignore the circulating post and exercise caution against the spread of old or misleading content designed to create false narratives.
