167 senior police officers face disciplinary panel over alleged misconduct

The Nigeria Police Force has commenced disciplinary proceedings against 167 senior officers over alleged breaches of professional conduct and related offences.

The exercise, currently underway at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, is being handled by the Force Disciplinary Committee (FDC), a key internal body tasked with reviewing cases involving officers from the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police and above.

According to a statement issued on Tuesday by the Force Public Relations Officer, Anthony Okon Placid, the process is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen accountability, enforce discipline, and uphold professional standards within the Force.

The committee is expected to examine each case thoroughly and make recommendations to the Police Service Commission in line with existing laws and regulations.

The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, reaffirmed the Force’s commitment to discipline and integrity, stressing that any officer found culpable would face due process.

He noted that the disciplinary proceedings form part of broader reforms aimed at strengthening internal control systems, promoting ethical conduct, and improving public confidence in the police.

The Force also reiterated its resolve to uphold accountability and ensure that officers conduct themselves in line with the core values of the profession.
