President Tinubu lauds congratulates winners of elections in FCT, Kano, Rivers, hails Wike
President Bola Tinubu on Sunday congratulated candidates who emerged victorious in the weekend’s local government and state by-elections across the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Kano and Rivers states, urging them to regard their mandates as a sacred responsibility to the people.
The President’s message followed the conclusion of chairmanship and councillorship elections in the FCT’s six area councils, AMAC, Bwari, Gwagwalada, Kuje, Kwali and Abaji, as well as by-elections into state constituencies in Rivers State and Kano State.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu praised the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the conduct of the polls, describing the exercise as peaceful and orderly.
He called on the newly elected officials to serve with humility, patriotism and a deep sense of accountability, noting that democratic mandates must translate into tangible development at the grassroots.
Results announced so far show that the All Progressives Congress (APC) secured victories in Abaji, Kwali, AMAC and Bwari Area Councils, while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) clinched Gwagwalada Area Council.
In Rivers State, the APC won both state assembly seats contested in the by-elections.
President Tinubu also commended the Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, for what he termed significant infrastructural and administrative strides in the territory, saying the progress recorded had resonated with voters.
Extending his congratulations to the APC’s national leadership and party faithful in Kano and Rivers states, the President described the outcomes as a reflection of democratic engagement and healthy political competition.
He further applauded security agencies and voters for ensuring a calm atmosphere during the exercise, stressing that credible elections remain central to strengthening Nigeria’s democratic institutions.
Tinubu urged INEC to continue refining its electoral processes to enhance transparency and public confidence, maintaining that sustained improvements would consolidate the nation’s democratic gains.
