President Tinubu approves five new appointments, writes Senate for confirmation
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu took a major step yesterday when he forwarded the names of five candidates to the Senate for approval as Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs).
The candidates are Johnson Alalibo Siniken (Bayelsa), Umar Muhktar (Borno, reappointed), Chukwuemeka Ukomba (Anambra), Saad Umar (Bauchi), and Umar Yusuf Garba (Kano).
During plenary, Senate President Godswill Akpabio read the formal message from the President on the Senate floor.
Following the reading, Akpabio directed that the nominations be forwarded to the Senate Committee on Electoral Matters for thorough screening, with a report expected back to plenary within one week.
