Security operatives foil early Morning gunmen attack on military base
Nigerian Army troops, with air support from the Nigerian Air Force (NAF), have thwarted an early-morning assault by suspected ISWAP fighters on a forward operating base in Rann, located in Kala-Balge Local Government Area of Borno State.
The attack, which occurred on Wednesday, was reportedly carried out by insurgents disguised as Fulani herdsmen, according to Zagazola Makama, a security-focused publication covering the Lake Chad region.
Ground forces engaged the attackers in an intense gun battle, prompting the swift deployment of a NAF fighter jet. The airstrike disrupted the assault, forcing the terrorists to flee in multiple directions to avoid being hit.
The NAF pilot reportedly tracked a fleeing group in a Hilux vehicle, targeted them, and eliminated several fighters while destroying the truck.
While the exact number of terrorist casualties remains unconfirmed, normalcy has been restored to the area following the joint military response.
This incident comes just a day after Boko Haram insurgents reportedly killed at least five soldiers in separate attacks on military bases across Borno State.
