Police officers disregarding IGP’s directive – Contractor cries out

A contractor based in Osun, Mr. Kehinde Oladosu, has accused officers from the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) in Lagos of ignoring a direct order from the Inspector General of Police (IGP) regarding the transfer of an ongoing investigation, voicing concerns for his safety and that of his family members.

Oladosu claimed that they are being threatened in connection with a land dispute.

Speaking to reporters in Osogbo on Monday, Oladosu explained that the dispute initially led to a legal case in a State High Court.

Tensions rose when alleged land grabbers caused significant damage, prompting a new investigation by the Osun State Police after a fresh complaint was filed.

Oladosu explained that after being summoned by the Osun State Police, the suspects filed a petition in Lagos, changing key details to make him appear as the aggressor.

Despite this, instead of allowing the Osun Police to continue with their investigation, FCID officials in Lagos intervened, requesting that the case be transferred.

However, the IGP issued a clear instruction against this move, insisting that the investigation remain in Osogbo.

A letter dated October 30, 2024, under reference CB:7000/IGP.SEC/ABJ/VOL. 759/122, was sent to both the Assistant IGP of the FCID and the Osun State Police Commissioner.

It reinforced the IGP’s stance that the Osun command should retain control of the investigation, with a report back to the IGP’s office in Abuja.

Signed by the IGP’s Principal Staff Officer, DCP Asuquo Effiong, the letter emphasized that the policy against transferring cases remained in effect.

Despite this official directive, Oladosu claimed that last month, FCID officers raided his home in Osogbo, arrested him, and detained him at Alagbon in Lagos.

He pointed out that this action came even though he had already filed a suit in the State High Court seeking the enforcement of his fundamental human rights.

Oladosu is now calling on the IGP to investigate the blatant disregard for his orders

. “This total disregard for the IGP’s directive is deeply troubling,” he said.

“My family and I are living in constant fear, as the threats from the FCID operatives continue despite clear instructions from the IGP and an active court case.”
