Police officer arrested on CPs directive for alleged murder
The Lagos State Police command has reportedly arrested and detained the Police, who allegedly shot dead a motorcyclist, Alabi Stephen around Sabo Market, in the Ikorodu area of the state last week.
The state Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alabi, who disclosed this on Thursday, said the command had commenced investigation into the events that claimed Alabi’s life, adding that the officer would have his day in court.
It will be recalled that Stephen was shot last week by one of the policemen, attached to the Sagamu Road Police Division in Ogun State.
The policemen were reportedly enforcing the ban placed on motorcycle by the state government when one of them shot Stephen to death.
And while reacting to the incident, the police commissioner said, “There was a problem because some of the Okada riders did not want the enforcement to take place, maybe because of the highhandedness of the police.
“So, they reacted, and in the course of that, there was a scuffle. According to the information I got, they (motorcyclists) were trying to dispossess the policeman of his arm, and in the course of doing that, there was a discharge.
“The matter is being investigated and if the officer is culpable, like I said before, we will not allow anybody to take anybody’s life unlawfully because life is sacred. If there is evidence that he actually did it intentionally, then, he will face the music. He is currently being detained as we are investigating the case.
