Police Officer allegedly shot dead by Soldier after heated argument

A police constable, Ukasha Muhammed (Force No. 533164), has reportedly been shot and killed by soldiers following a confrontation at a security checkpoint in Bauchi State.

According to eyewitness accounts, the incident occurred on the night of Friday, October 10, 2025, in the Tudun Wadan Dan Iya area commonly referred to as Bayan Gari, within the Bauchi metropolis.

The area, known for its vibrant social activity, was being patrolled by a police team as part of routine security checks.

Trouble reportedly began around 9:00 p.m. when the patrol team stopped vehicles and questioned individuals on motorcycles.

Tensions flared when one of the individuals allegedly refused to cooperate, sparking a heated altercation.

Rashida Muhammed, a relative of the slain officer, told Daily Trust that about an hour after the initial confrontation, a soldier who had been involved in the earlier dispute returned to the scene with two armed colleagues.

Without warning, she said, one of the soldiers fired a shot at Constable Ukasha, striking him in the chest.

Bystanders intervened to prevent the assailants from fleeing, and additional police units arrived shortly afterward to secure the scene and detain those involved.

The Bauchi State Police Command has since confirmed the killing.

In a press statement, Commissioner of Police Sani-Omolori Aliyu urged officers to remain calm and assured the public of a full and impartial investigation into the incident.

Police spokesperson, CSP Mohammed Ahmed Wakil, provided further details, saying the assault occurred at around 10:35 p.m. near Padimo Hotel, where a patrol team led by Inspector Hussaini Samaila was operating.

Constable Ukasha was reportedly attacked by two individuals, one of whom has been identified as Private Usman Mubarak (23NA/84/5346), attached to the Special Task Force (STF) Operation Safe Haven in Plateau State.

Later that night, two additional soldiers—Private Yakubu Yahuza (23NA/85/10185) and Private Godspower Gabriel (23NA/84/5654)—allegedly arrived at the scene, partially dressed in military gear and armed. They are accused of fatally shooting Constable Ukasha before attempting to flee.

The injured officer was rushed to Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH), where he was declared dead.

His body has been deposited at the hospital’s mortuary.

Police authorities confirmed that both Private Yahuza and Private Gabriel are now in custody. A homicide investigation team, made up of seasoned detectives, has been assembled to conduct a thorough and professional inquiry into the killing.
