Police issue security alert ahead of upcoming Cult group celebration
The Oyo State Police Command has issued a strong warning to residents regarding potential security threats surrounding the upcoming July 7th Founders’ Day celebration of the Neo-Black Movement of Africa (Aiye Confraternity), widely known as the Black Axe.
According to a statement released on Sunday by the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), CSP Adewale Osifeso, intelligence gathered through collaborative efforts and community partnerships indicates a high likelihood of large-scale retribution and mayhem between rival cult groups during the event.
CSP Osifeso stated, “Our intelligence suggests that the Neo-Black Movement of Africa may use this occasion to execute plans that could lead to serious public disorder, including reprisals against rival cult groups.”
The Police Command is urging all residents to exercise extreme caution and report any suspicious activities to the authorities.
He said, “Our intelligence suggests that the Neo-Black Movement of Africa may use this occasion to execute plans that could lead to serious public disorder, including reprisals against rival cult groups.
“As part of our proactive security measures, the Police Command has conducted multiple sensitisation sessions with key stakeholders, including hoteliers, lounge owners, and operators of studio apartments, to emphasise the importance of refusing to make their facilities available for hosting gatherings associated with cult groups known for violent activities”.
According to him, the safety of all residents remains “Our highest priority.
“We therefore call on parents, guardians, community leaders, and influential figures to collaborate with law enforcement in mitigating these risks.
“It is crucial to engage our youth in conversations about the dangers of cultism and the severe consequences of participating in violent or unlawful gatherings”.
He urged the public to remain vigilant and immediately report any suspicious activities, gatherings, or threats to the police
In order to ensure swift response and maintain order, he said arrangements have been concluded for the deployment of police officers across strategic locations within the state during this period.
“Together, we can foster a safe environment for all residents of Oyo State.
“We are committed to ensuring that Oyo State remains a peaceful and secure place for everyone”.
