Police give update on reports claiming 40 worshippers were kidnapped from a Mosque

The Zamfara State Police Command has refuted media claims that 40 worshippers were abducted during morning prayers in Tsafe Local Government Area, clarifying that only eight individuals were taken in the incident.

In a statement released on Tuesday, the Command described the widely circulated reports as inaccurate, stating that the actual number of abductees was far lower than initially reported.

“Contrary to the figure reported, the incident occurred on 15th September 2025 at about 05:07hrs, when suspected armed bandits invaded Gidan Turbe area of Tsafe LGA of Zamfara State and abducted eight (8) individuals during morning prayers,” the statement read.

The victims were identified as Liman Yahaya (46), Dan Garfi (52), Malam Damu (47), Bello Natsuhuwa (36), Yakubu Isa (40), Audu Minista (34), Yaquba Ado (27), and Sabi Usman (41).

Authorities confirmed that search and rescue operations are currently underway.

“The Zamfara State Police Command is actively working with other security agencies and community stakeholders to ensure the safe return of the abducted victims,” the statement continued.

The police further urged caution in the sharing of information related to such incidents.

“We urge members of the public and the media to always verify information from official sources before dissemination, so as not to cause unnecessary panic.”

Reassuring residents of ongoing efforts to maintain peace and security across the state, the Command also called on citizens to remain calm and vigilant, and to promptly report any suspicious activity to nearby police formations.
