Police dismantle illegal Checkpoints, carried out an unannounced inspections
Senior police officers have carried out an unannounced inspection of security checkpoints on the East–West Road in Bayelsa State, moving to eliminate unlawful practices and improve highway policing.
The Assistant Inspector General of Police overseeing Zone 16, AIG Johnson Oluwole Adenola, led the exercise alongside the Bayelsa State Commissioner of Police, CP Iyamah Daniel Edebor.
The visit formed part of broader efforts by the Nigeria Police Force to restore public confidence and guarantee safer travel routes for motorists and commuters.
As part of the operation, the police chiefs directly monitored the removal of unauthorised roadblocks that were disrupting traffic movement along the busy corridor.
The intervention followed mounting complaints from the public regarding the behaviour of some security operatives stationed on major roads.
Addressing officers encountered during the tour, the police leadership reiterated that extortion, harassment and other unprofessional conduct would not be tolerated under any circumstances.
They stressed that strict discipline would be enforced to uphold the integrity of the force.
“This exercise will be a routine operation to checkmate the conduct of officers on highways across the state,” CP Edebor said, affirming the command’s resolve to sustain oversight, accountability and professionalism among personnel.
