PDP cries out over alleged death linked to Governor’s Convoy – its not true Governor
The Ondo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has criticised Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa over his failure to address the reported death of a young man allegedly hit by the governor’s convoy during an official engagement in the state.
The party claimed that the victim, identified as Good Emiju, was fatally knocked down in Oka-Akoko, the administrative centre of Akoko South-West Local Government Area, while the governor was on a thank-you visit to communities in the area.
In a statement issued by the PDP’s Director of Media and Public Communications, Wande Ajayi, the opposition party faulted the governor’s continued silence on the incident, describing it as troubling and inappropriate.
The PDP also raised concerns over what it described as the swift burial of the deceased, questioning the circumstances surrounding the handling of the matter.
According to the party, the state government owes the public and the victim’s family a clear and transparent account of the incident, insisting that the absence of an official response amounts to insensitivity and a disregard for the life lost.
“According to credible accounts, the victim was first rushed to the General Hospital in Oka-Akoko, where medical personnel were allegedly unable to adequately manage the situation due to the deplorable state of the facility. He was thereafter transferred to the Federal Medical Centre, Owo, where he was pronounced dead. Shockingly, the young man has since been buried.
“To date, no official statement has been issued to inform the general public, clarify the facts surrounding the incident, or explain the circumstances under which a citizen lost his life in connection with a government convoy.”
However, Governor Aiyedatiwa has distanced himself from the incident, stressing that his convoy was not involved in the death.
In a statement through his Special Adviser on Communication and Strategy, Allen Sowore, the governor said: “It is pertinent and necessary to categorically clarify that the Governor’s convoy was neither responsible for nor involved in any accident on that day, or on any day since the commencement of the Thank-You Tour across the 18 LGAs of the State.”
