PCRC trains 1000 Youth on security vigilance, intelligence gathering

The Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) is to train more than 1000 youth on security vigilance and intelligence gathering in Zaria, Kaduna State.

The PCRC National Chairman, Alhaji Ibrahim Olaniyan, disclosed this while addressing PCRC members on Monday in Zaria.

Olaniyan said that the training would also include the application of modern technology on crime detection, and community policing.

He said that the training would encourage the youth into community policing towards ensuring a crime-free society.

“Youth are agents of change in our society, as such their role is unquantifiable,’’ Olaniyan said.

According to him, a committee would be set up under the PCRC Youth Mobilization and Awareness programme to work out modalities for the training.

He said that the choice of Zaria for the training was based on the concentration of academic institutions and its strategic location in the North.

Olaniyan said that his visit to Zaria Area command was to strengthen the operations of the command and reorganise its structure in line with the constitution of the PCRC.

“I don’t normally visit area commands except when it is necessary, Zaria command is important to Kaduna state and the nation as such, it must be put in order,’’ he said.

Earlier, the Representative of Police Area Commander, CSP Abdurrahaman Idris, lauded the national chairman for the visit which he said signified his commitment to the course of community policing in Nigeria.

“I feel delighted and encouraged that your coming marks the beginning of a new PCRC in this command, we are ready to support you to succeed,” Idris said. (NAN)

Traditional leaders and stakeholders launching the book ‘From Dreams to Reality’ on Sunday in Ikorodu, Lagos

Sen. Adetokunbo Abiru (Lagos-East) on Sunday appealed to Ikorodu residents to provide useful information to tackle insecurity in the area.

Abiru made the appeal during the 50th Birthday and Book Launch of Akinyemi Adepeju, Founder of Ikorodu Oga Radio, at Oriwu Club Hall in Ikorodu, Lagos.

The event was themed: “Impact of Community Media on National Security, Tourism Development and Cultural Renaissance.”

Abiru, represented by his media aide, Enitan Olukotun, called on all stakeholders in the division to collaborate and tackle insecurity as a nation, state or local government.

“Leaders in Ikorodu have been doing a lot in galvanising stakeholders to put measures in place to reduce the crime rate across Ikorodu.

“This idea has led to the establishment of different local security outfits to complement the efforts of the statutory security agencies.

“Traditional leaders and my office have sensitised residents on providing useful information to enhance the safety of lives and communities across the division,” he said.

Abiru commended the author for distinguishing himself as a journalism professional, advising him to consolidate his successes.

Similarly, Wasiu Adesina, Chairman, Ikorodu Local Government Area, reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to prioritising the security of lives and properties in the community.

Adesina said his administration had improved security architecture in the area through the set-up of a joint task force to complement the effort of the police.

He said Akinyemi had played a significant role in disseminating developmental projects and placing Ikorodu on the global map through his radio station.

“I join millions of people in congratulating you as a pioneer of a community radio station in Ikorodu.

“As regards insecurity, my administration’s priority is to ensure the security of lives and properties, which is the core mandate to our community,” he said.

Earlier, Akinyemi, during his book launch titled: ”From Dreams to Reality”, expressed gratitude to traditional and political leaders who graced the event.

Akinyemi said the media would continue to play a significant role in ensuring sustainable democracy and curtailing insecurity in the country. (NAN)

President Tinubu ready to provide everything to end insecurity in Nigeria — Federal Govt

The Minister of Defence, Badaru Abubakar, has directed the troops of the 17 Brigade Katsina to take decisive action to address the persistent insecurity affecting Katsina State.

He assured them that President Bola Tinubu “is ready to supply everything” necessary to eradicate the threats posed by banditry.

Abubakar made these statements while speaking to journalists on Friday at the Katsina-Zamfara States border town of Gurbin Baure, where he addressed the troops stationed at the 17 Brigade. His visit aimed to assess the situation and receive briefings on the ongoing military operations against banditry.

During his address, the defence minister commended the troops for their efforts, noting that President Tinubu is satisfied with the progress made in combating banditry in recent months.

He acknowledged the significant improvements observed in the military’s operations against these criminal elements in the state.

The Miniser said: “President Tinubu has asked me to thank you and to also encourage you to do more in ending insecurity in these operational areas.

“He is ready to supply everything you need to eliminate insecurity.

“Are you ready to finish them off? Are you ready to end banditry? Soon?

“For the last few months there has been progress every day and I believe that all the states are cooperating in ending banditry in the North-West. We need a lot of support from the general public.

“I came by road to assess our deployment there. Zaria-Gusau Road has been very notorious for kidnappers. We have re-strategised and improved our deployment there and I am impressed with what I see in ending consistent attacks of motorists in the area.

“And from Gusau-Jibia and Katsina, is also another road being attacked regularly and I plied it today and we agreed on what to do to stop the attack which the troops are doing.”

BREAKING; Police vows to enforce judgment against Rivers Local Govt Poll

The Nigeria Police Force has directed its commanders to enforce the Federal High Court’s judgement against the conduct of the controversial local government elections scheduled for tomorrow in Rivers State.

The police, in a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Grace Iringe-Koko, recalled that on July 19, 2024, a Federal High Court in Abuja issued a restraining order preventing the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies from providing security during the local government election.

The statement insisted that the Nigeria Police Force had been advised by the Force Legal Department to comply with the judgment of the Federal High Court dated September 30, 2024, which barred the police from allowing, participating in, providing security for, or taking part in the Rivers State Local Government Election on October 5, 2024.

The statement reads: “Additionally, on September 30, 2024, the Federal High Court in Abuja delivered a judgment that again prohibited the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies from participating in the Local Government Election.

“Given these circumstances, the Nigeria Police Force has been advised by the Force Legal Department that the ruling from the Federal High Court on September 30, 2024, takes precedence.

“Recently, an opposition party protested, calling for adherence to the court orders and expressing their determination to prevent any disregard for the law.

“The Nigeria Police Force encourages all parties to seek appropriate legal redress if they feel aggrieved by any decisions or actions related to the election process.

“The Nigeria Police Force is dedicated to maintaining law and order and will not stand idly by in the face of potential disturbances.

“Necessary actions will be taken to enforce the court’s orders. All Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, and Tactical Commanders have been directed to ensure full compliance with the judgment of the Federal High Court”.

The statement called on all other security agencies  to comply with the Federal High Court judgment.
