Arewa Youth reveals Candidate they will support ahead of 2027 Presidential election
The Arewa Youth Assembly has emphatically declared its unwavering support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027, vehemently dismissing any suggestions of disloyalty from the Northern region.
The prominent youth group asserted the North’s steadfast commitment to the Tinubu presidency and denounced what it termed “false narratives” purporting regional dissent.
In a strongly worded statement signed by its Speaker, Mohammed Salihu Danlami, the Assembly reaffirmed its allegiance to President Tinubu and sharply criticized recent remarks made by Zainab Buba Galadima, daughter of veteran politician Buba Galadima.
The group characterized her comments regarding Northern voting patterns and the administration’s performance as “baseless and unrepresentative.”
“We call not only on Northerners, but all Nigerians to disregard her comments and predictions,” the statement read.
“They are without facts or credible assessment, and do not reflect the true sentiment of the North.”
The Assembly further labeled Zainab Buba Galadima as one of a few “unscrupulous elements” allegedly attempting to mislead the public into believing the North opposes the current government.
On the contentious issue of political power rotation, the Arewa Youth Assembly firmly maintained that the presidency should remain in the South until 2031, aligning with Nigeria’s established zoning arrangement.
The group highlighted that Northern leaders, including former President Muhammadu Buhari, had benefited from this structure, serving two full terms between 2015 and 2023.
“Support for Tinubu in 2027 is solidified. No coalition or party can unseat him. Northern politicians should support him and wait for their turn in 2031,” the statement emphasised.
The Assembly cautioned Northern aspirants against contesting the 2027 presidential election out of malice, instead advocating for unity and adherence to the agreed political process.
Directly addressing Zainab Buba Galadima, the Assembly stated, “Being the daughter of Buba Galadima does not give you the right to meddle in Northern politics or claim to speak for the region. Your family benefits from the Southern Presidency; therefore, your comments are unwarranted and seek cheap popularity.”
The Arewa Youth Assembly concluded by urging Nigerians nationwide to rally behind President Tinubu’s continued leadership and encouraged citizens to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) to participate in the 2027 elections. “Support Tinubu, and let’s keep Nigeria moving forward,” Danlami added.
