One dead as kidnappers engage Police in shootout
The Enugu State Police Command has announced the arrest of a kidnap suspect, with another shot dead during a gun duel.
Speaking on the development via a statement signed by the State Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, ASP Daniel Ndukwe, he disclosed that the feat was achieved in a double operation which occurred on May 16 and 26 respectively.
The statement added that the kidnap suspect kidnapped a father and a daughter on 15/05/2020 at about 5:pm, by armed men at a building site in Eziama Abakpa-Nike.
He added that the third victim was kidnapped on the 25/05/2020 at about 8:30pm, in exchange for her son and another victim that was kidnapped by the suspects.
He disclosed further that the police operatives attacked the suspects at their hideout, and engaged them in a fierce gun battle, leading to the death of one and the other, who sustained gun injuries, was arrested. Meanwhile, the victims were successfully rescued unhurt.
“However, following a tactical and intelligence operation carried out by Operatives of the Command’s anti kidnapping Unit at the said forest, the victim was successfully rescued unhurt, after an intense gun battle with the Kidnappers, which led to the death of one.”
The PPRO said one AK-47 rifle with breech no. HM9221, twenty rounds of live ammunition, two matchets, four handsets and a cash sum of N700.00 were recovered from them.
The State Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmad AbdurRahman, commended the police operatives for moving swiftly into action after having received a tip-off, and he urged residents to always assist the police with credible information that will help them police the state adequately.
