Nine abducted Residents still remain in captivity despite N40 million ransom payment
Nine individuals kidnapped by armed bandits in Adanla community, Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State, are still being held hostage even after a ransom of N40 million was reportedly paid by members of the community.
The abductions occurred on December 26, 2025, at the palace of the community’s monarch, Oba Olarinoye.
The bandits had initially targeted the monarch and his Queen, but the royal couple was away attending an event in Igbaja town at the time of the attack.
Unable to find their primary targets, the assailants instead seized nine other individuals present at the palace and took them into the bush.
A relative of some of the victims, who spoke to Daily Post on condition of anonymity, confirmed that “about N40m contributed by members of the community and good spirited citizens had been delivered to the bandits but the victims are yet to be set free.”
He added that the situation has left the community in a state of uncertainty regarding the fate of the abductees.
According to the source, “the bandits called to inform us that they heard the news report of the victims’ capture and are waiting for security agencies to come to their rescue.”
The relative also accused certain community informants of assisting the bandits by providing them with crucial information.
He appealed to the state government and security agencies to intervene and ensure the safe release of the victims.
