NELFUND issues 48-hour window ultimatum for tertiary Institutions over Students loan

The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has declared a final 48-hour extension for tertiary institutions that are yet to complete the student verification process required for the 2024/2025 loan application.

In a statement released in Abuja on Friday, the Fund’s Director of Strategic Communications, Mrs. Oseyemi Oluwatuyi, announced that the portal will be reopened from 12:00 a.m. on Sunday, October 12, until 12:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 14.

Oluwatuyi explained that the move is intended to guarantee that “all eligible students were duly captured and verified by their respective institutions” before the application deadline.

“Institutions are strongly advised to make full use of this final opportunity,” she urged.

She warned that institutions failing to complete the verification within the given timeframe would “forfeit participation in the current loan cycle,” which could severely affect students relying on the scheme. “A situation that will regrettably disadvantage their students who are the ultimate beneficiaries of the loan scheme,” she emphasized.

Oluwatuyi also noted that, in a bid to promote “transparency and accountability,” NELFUND would publish the names of institutions that fail to comply.

Reaffirming the agency’s goals, she said NELFUND remains committed to “fostering equitable access to higher education through the efficient, transparent, and inclusive management of the scheme.”
