The Inspector General of Police Adamu Muhammed has assured the general public that the perpetrators behind the senseless killing of Miss Vera Uwaila, a 100 level student of University of Benin [UNIBEN], will be caught.
The IGP’s promise was contained in a press release signed and made available to CRIMECHANNELS by Force Public Relations Officer DCP Frank Mba in Abuja.
According to the release “the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, has ordered the deployment of additional Investigations and forensic support to Edo State Command to intensify the ongoing investigation into the incident.
The IGP, while condemning the gruesome attack, sends his condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of the deceased.
He called for calm, and assured the public that the Police force will do everything in it’s power to bring the culprits of the wicked act to books in the shortest possible time. He also added that anyone with useful information should contact the Police.
CRIMECHANNELS Recalls the 22-year-old undergraduate, was raped by four guys and left to die in a Redeemed Christian of Church (RCCG) auditorium in Benin, Edo State.
Uwa, who is a 100 level student of the University of Benin, UNIBEN, was said to have visited the church to read on Wednesday, before the four men pounced on her to defiled her.
The incident has created outcry on social media with many Nigerians shocked over the brutal treatment meted out to the deceased said to be a brilliant student by colleagues.

Gunrunner reveals how much he was offered to smuggle ammunition
Yusuf Adam, a suspected gunrunner, has admitted to receiving N50,000 to transport ammunition from Jos to Abuja following his capture by Plateau State Police Command officials.
Yusuf was arrested in relation to the illegal trafficking of firearms and ammunition, along with three other accomplices. During the operation, the police also retrieved N300,000 from the suspects.
In his parade at the Jos police headquarters on Tuesday, Yusuf disclosed that despite his first request for a larger reward because of the smuggling operation’s high risk, his sponsor turned him down.
Ultimately, he agreed to transport the ammunition for N50,000.
“I am from Abuja. Two weeks ago, a man whom we know each other sent me to collect the ammunition and bring it to him. He has given me the contact of those to collect the ammunition in Jos. I asked him if he is a security agent but told me that I should not bother. The man assured me that I am not going to be in trouble.
“But in the process of collecting the ammunition, the security operatives, arrested me alongside three others,” Yusuf said.
While parading the suspects, Plateau State Commissioner of Police (CP), Emmanuel Adeshina, explained that the arrests were made following credible intelligence regarding the movement of gunrunners. He emphasized that all the suspects would be formally charged once investigations were complete.
The CP also expressed gratitude for the public’s cooperation in addressing security challenges in the state, urging residents to continue providing the police with vital information to combat crime in their communities.

BREAKING: National Grid at it again as Parts of Nigeria is thrown into darkness
Some parts of Nigeria have slipped into darkness as the national grid experienced a disturbance on Wednesday, marking the second time in the year.
According to data obtained from the Nigerian System Operator’s portal (niggrid.org), the collapse occurred around 11:30 am on Wednesday.
The cause of this grid disturbance is yet to be disclosed by the Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN.
Abuja Electricity Distribution Company, AEDC, confirmed that the grid disturbance happened around 11:30 am on Wednesday.
“We regret to inform you that a system disturbance occurred on the national grid at 11:34 am today (Wednesday), causing a power outage across our franchise areas.
“While gradual restoration of power supply has commenced, please be assured that we are working closely with relevant stakeholders to fully restore electricity as soon as the grid is stabilised,” AEDC said in a statement on X on Wednesday.
Similarly, a popular Nigeria National Grid account on X wrote on Wednesday, “There was a “GRID DISTURBANCE” before noon today (Wednesday). Parts of the country experienced an outage”.

Medical Doctor arrested for allegedly treating injured armed bandits
A doctor named Lawan Ado was detained by security personnel in Katsina State on suspicion of treating infamous bandits, including Usman Modi Modi, the sought bandit kingpin.
Ado, a native of Safana Local Government Area, was captured when intelligence revealed that he was caring for wounded bandits who were active throughout the state.
Ado allegedly admitted to treating multiple injured criminals at their hiding places during questioning.
One of his first high-profile patients, according to the suspect, was Usman Modi Modi, who had been injured during a clash with the Yan Kyanbara vigilante group.
Ado revealed that Modi was initially treated at a hospital in Taskiya but was later brought to him for further medical care. For his services, Ado claimed he was paid N18,000.
It was gathered that Ado had traveled across multiple locations to provide medical care to various criminals, including another bandit identified as Karanboguwa.
Ado’s arrest represents a significant breakthrough in the ongoing battle against banditry in the state, as authorities ramp up efforts to dismantle the networks supporting these criminal activities.
