Minister reacts as allegation of Certificate forgery soread

The Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Chief Uche Nnaji, has debunked allegations regarding his academic qualifications, describing the claims as unfounded and politically motivated.

Speaking through his Special Adviser on Media, Dr. Robert Ngwu, at a press conference in Abuja on Monday, the Minister addressed reports alleging discrepancies in his academic records from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN).

Nnaji said the reports, published by a national online news platform, have caused significant reputational damage and called on the public to examine the facts.

“Starting from May 2025, a purported letter surfaced allegedly written by the university suddenly claiming that there were no records of the Minister’s graduation. The question every Nigerian should ask is simple and logical, what changed between December 2023 and October 2025?” Ngwu said.

He stated that the Minister was duly admitted into UNN in 1981 to study Microbiology/Biochemistry, graduating in 1985 with a Second Class Honours (Lower Division).

To support this, a document was presented at the briefing, reportedly issued by the university’s Registrar, Dr. Mrs. Celine Ngozi Nnebedum, and signed on her behalf by IAS Onyeador on December 21, 2023.

The letter reads in part: “This is to confirm that Geoffrey Uchechukwu Nnaji with registration number 1981/30725 was admitted in 1981 to study Microbiology/Biochemistry in the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. Mr Geoffrey Uchechukwu Nnaji graduated from the University of Nigeria in July 1985 with Bachelor of Science in Microbiology/Biochemistry, Second Class (Hons) Lower Division.”

Nnaji contends that the above letter remains the official position of the university, and expressed concern over a separate document circulated in May 2025, which allegedly contradicted the earlier record.

The Minister attributed the controversy to political interests, stating that he believes it is linked to his potential candidacy in the 2027 Enugu State gubernatorial election.

“It is increasingly clear that this entire episode is not about education or integrity, it is about political desperation disguised as academic inquiry. The timing, the sources, the false documents and the paid narratives all point to a coordinated campaign to drag a reputable public servant into the mud of partisan politics. But Nigerians are wiser than that,” he said.

He also questioned the role of the Vice Chancellor in the matter: “By academic convention worldwide, the Registrar and not the Vice Chancellor is the custodian of all examination and graduation records. Any attempt by the Vice Chancellor to assume that role is an aberration in the university protocol and in his case an obvious political overreach,” Ngwu added.

To protect his academic records, the Minister said he had sought redress at the Federal High Court in Abuja. He cited Suit No. FHC/ABJ/CS/1909/2025, in which the court, presided over by Justice H.J. Yilwa, granted a series of protective orders on September 22, 2025.

According to the Minister: “These are not speculative claims, they are certified orders of the Federal High Court of Nigeria and that alone should settle the matter. Unfortunately instead of adhering strictly to the valid court order, the Vice Chancellor of the UNN, a lawyer by profession, resorted to cyber bullying and politically-motivated media trial against Chief Nnaji.”

He also reaffirmed that the university’s convocation brochure, archived at UNN, lists his name among graduates, a detail he says further validates his academic record.

“The facts are before the court, the document is in public domain and the truth cannot be buried under political propaganda,” he said.

My Husband wants to have s3x with me eight times everynight – Housewife cries for help

A Harare woman, Melocia Gwata, has successfully obtained a court-issued protection order against her husband, George Kusotera, following allegations of excessive sexual demands and physical abuse.

The case was heard at the Harare Civil Court before Magistrate Judith Taruvinga, where Melocia detailed the severity of her ordeal. She told the court that her husband had coerced her into sexual activity up to eight times a night, resorting to violence whenever she refused.

“He wants to have s3x every day and wakes me up in the middle of the night, even after we’ve been intimate countless times on the same day,” Melocia stated.

She further described how the abuse extended beyond physical coercion, with George allegedly threatening divorce and verbally assaulting her in front of their children.

“He has been assaulting me in front of our children, shouting obscenities and telling them I don’t deserve to be called their mother,” she added, highlighting the emotional toll the behaviour has taken on her and the family.

In response, George acknowledged his actions, apologising to his wife and attributing his conduct to love. “I did not realise I was making her uncomfortable. I apologise and promise not to physically abuse her anymore,” he told the court.

After hearing both sides, Magistrate Taruvinga granted Melocia a protection order, legally preventing her husband from further abuse and ensuring her safety.

Scores of terrorists neutralised after Major attacks on military base

Nigerian troops have successfully neutralised several terrorists and thwarted coordinated attacks in Adamawa and Borno States.

The Joint Task Force, Operation Hadin Kai, announced that the successes followed swift and decisive responses by soldiers to attempts by insurgents to overrun military formations in the North-East.

In a statement issued on Friday, Acting Media Information Officer of the Task Force, Lieutenant Solomon Atokolo, confirmed that the operations resulted in heavy casualties for the terrorists.

He explained that the first attack took place in the early hours of January 16, 2026, when insurgents targeted a patrol base at Sabon Gari in Madagali Local Government Area of Adamawa State.

Atokolo stated that troops under Sector 4 of Operation Hadin Kai quickly engaged the attackers and successfully repelled them. He added that reinforcements from Gulak and the Battalion Quick Reaction Force were promptly mobilised to support the operation, ensuring that the assault was decisively crushed.

“The terrorists were successfully repelled without any casualty to our troops or damage to equipment, forcing them to abandon the attack,” the statement said.

He added that security forces later carried out clearance operations in the surrounding area, scanning for improvised explosive devices and booby traps to guarantee the safety of both civilians and personnel.

In a separate incident on the same day, terrorists staged a large-scale, multi-directional attack on Forward Operating Base (FOB) Azir in Borno State.

The attackers attempted to breach the base’s defensive perimeter but were met with fierce resistance from troops. With support from the Air Component and other Nigerian Army aerial platforms, the soldiers unleashed sustained firepower that compelled the insurgents to retreat.

Although rocket-propelled grenade fire from the terrorists damaged some troop-carrying vehicles and partially affected the base’s CCTV control room, Atokolo said troops maintained full control of the situation and prevented any further breach.

The military spokesperson disclosed that several weapons and ammunition were recovered from the fleeing terrorists.

Items seized included a 60mm mortar tube, mortar bombs, locally fabricated explosives, heavy machine gun rounds, and hundreds of rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammunition.

The Joint Task Force commended the professionalism and resilience of the troops, reaffirming its commitment to sustaining operations aimed at restoring lasting peace and security to the North-East region.
