Lets stop terrorism, embrace peace as Boko Haram Fighter surrenders to Soldiers, drops ak47 riffle

In a significant development, a Boko Haram insurgent has surrendered to Nigerian military forces, urging fellow militants to abandon terrorism and embrace peace.

The fighter, who had been operating under the notorious Boko Haram commander Ali Ngulde in the Mandara Mountains, voluntarily submitted himself to troops of the 26 Task Force Brigade Joint Task Force (JTF) during a routine patrol along the Gwoza-Limankara Road in Borno State on March 1.

The defector, who handed over an AK-47 rifle and a magazine containing seven rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, cited several reasons for his decision.

He revealed that intensified military operations, severe oppression from Boko Haram leadership, internal injustices, and a growing food crisis due to blockages of supply routes had pushed him to surrender.

“Many of our people want to lay down their arms, but they fear being killed by both our leaders and the military,” he said.

He also expressed surprise at how smoothly his surrender went, remarking, “I never thought it would be this easy to lay down my gun and come out. I am sure when they see this, they will start running out from the bushes to surrender.”

The fighter, visibly relieved, called on other insurgents in the region to follow his example and reject terrorism.

This surrender marks a significant step in ongoing military operations aimed at neutralizing Boko Haram insurgents in the region.

The Nigerian military has taken the defector into custody for further profiling and necessary actions.
