Lagos Lawmaker defects to coalition Party ADC
Mrs Foluke Osafile, who represents Amuwo-Odofin Constituency I in the Lagos State House of Assembly, has switched her political allegiance from the Labour Party (LP) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
The lawmaker confirmed the defection on Saturday, saying, “Yes, it is true. I have defected to the ADC.”
According to her, the move was driven by a desire to more effectively advance the interests of her constituents and secure a better future for them.
Osafile said she is ready to collaborate with leaders of her new party to deepen democratic governance.
“Together, we will strengthen our democratic institutions and ensure that the voices of ordinary Nigerians are heard and respected,” she stated.
She also sought to calm any concerns among voters, assuring them of her continued commitment: “Your trust remains my guiding principle.”
Elected in 2023 on the platform of the Labour Party, Osafile’s mandate was at the centre of a prolonged legal battle.
Although an election tribunal initially overturned her victory, the Court of Appeal later reinstated her, bringing the dispute to a close.
She is expected to formally declare her defection to the ADC on the floor of the House during plenary in the coming days.
