JUST IN;Two Soldiers killed by gunmen in latest attack, Senator mourns
The recent Boko Haram raid on Yamtake village in Borno State’s Gwoza Local Government Area, which killed two troops and other civilians, has been denounced by Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume (APC-Borno South).
The attack, which targeted a village that the Borno State Government had recently relocated after years of relocation due to insurgency, was deemed unfortunate and reprehensible by Ndume, who represents the affected area, in a statement released on Friday.
The senator praised the 26 Task Force Brigade Commander, Brigadier General Nasir Abdullahi, and his soldiers for their prompt action in thwarting the terrorists’ effort to advance on Gwoza town, which was formerly a significant Boko Haram stronghold.
Yamtake, situated just 14 kilometers from Gwoza along the Gwoza-Damboa Road, was overrun on Thursday night, forcing many residents to flee once again.
Ndume expressed concern that insurgents continue to launch attacks across Borno’s three senatorial zones—North, Central, and South—with growing frequency and little resistance in some areas.
“This renewed wave of attacks is alarming,” he said. “It is unfortunate that after years of displacement and resettlement efforts, our people in Yamtake had to face another night of horror.”
Ndume reiterated his call for the formation of an Armed Community Defence force to support military efforts. While praising the bravery of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), local hunters, and vigilantes, he stressed that they remain poorly armed, often relying on dane guns and sticks.
He further urged the Federal Government and the military to adopt what he termed the TEAAM strategy—Technology, Equipment, Arms and Ammunition, and Motivation—to decisively tackle terrorism.
“The sacrifices of our military are commendable, but we must do more. The TEAAM approach is essential if we are to defeat Boko Haram and restore lasting peace to Borno and the entire North East,” Ndume stated.
He also called on the public to remain vigilant and support security agencies with timely information, while offering condolences to the families of the fallen soldiers and civilians.
