Wives of Soldiers arrested in coup plot demand trial or release of husbands
Wives of soldiers allegedly linked to a coup plot against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Friday urged the Federal Government to either release their husbands or arraign them in court without further delay.
The women made the appeal during a press conference in Abuja, where they also demanded to be granted access to the detained soldiers.
According to them, the families have endured months of uncertainty and distress since the arrests, with little information about the fate of their husbands.
They said the situation has left their households gripped by fear and unanswered questions, stressing that justice must be carried out transparently in line with the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
The women described the past months as deeply painful, noting that they had been forced to watch from the sidelines as public narratives about the alleged coup plot continued to circulate.
They also expressed concern that the accusations had subjected their husbands to trial in the media, adding that some family members had faced intimidation from men in uniform.
“Charge our husbands to court or release them,” the women said.
They maintained that their demand was not only for the sake of their families but also to ensure that due process and the rule of law are respected.
