The Edo State Police Command has arrested seven suspected criminals allegedly in possession of rifles and other dangerous weapons, the command confirmed in a statement on Friday.
Moses Yamu, the Public Relations Officer of the command, said the suspects were apprehended by operatives of the Okhuaihe Division in collaboration with local vigilante personnel during routine stop-and-search operations along the Benin–Agbor Road.
According to Yamu, the arrests took place between November 2 and December 4, 2025, between 6:00 p.m. and 6:40 p.m., after the suspects alighted from a truck. The suspects, aged between 22 and 30, were allegedly found with assorted rifles and other weapons.
The seven individuals have been identified as Usman Ibrahim, Bello Garba, Dahiru Muhammad, Sarki Murtala, Suleman Ibrahim, Umar Yahaya, Abdulahi Hassan, and Isah Musa Maida. Yamu added that investigations revealed photos of the suspects posing with the rifles.
“The suspects claimed they were coming from Adamawa State but could not provide any satisfactory explanation for their activities,” Yamu said.
In addition to the rifles, officers recovered a dane gun, a pack of cartridges, charms, food items, a cutlass, a knife, a solar panel, three flashlights, a mobile phone, and a pack of matches from Isah Musa Maida.
The Public Relations Officer stated that all suspects have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation, while Maida is expected to be arraigned in court upon conclusion of the probe.
