JUST IN; Over 20 Medical Students kidnapped by gunmen

In a harrowing incident in Benue State, over 20 medical and dental students, along with a House Officer, have been abducted by armed assailants.

The students were on their way to the Federation of Catholic Medical and Dental Students (FECAMDS) annual convention, which was being held in Enugu.

The victims, who are students from the University of Maiduguri and the University of Jos, were traveling in a convoy when they were ambushed by gunmen.

The attack occurred around 5:30 p.m. in the Otukpo region of Benue State. The convoy, which was heading towards the convention, was intercepted by the assailants in what has been described as a well-coordinated ambush.

According to Sahara Reporters, the Benue State Police Command has confirmed the abduction.

SP Catherine Anene, the spokesperson for the command, stated that an investigation into the incident has been initiated, and authorities are working diligently to secure the release of the hostages and to track down the perpetrators responsible for this violent crime.

She said: “Yes, the report of kidnapping is true. The report was received around 5:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., and an investigation is ongoing.”
