In a major breakthrough, on February 27, officers from the Anti-Kidnap Unit of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command apprehended a former Immigration officer who was attempting to sell two high-powered rifles to bandits in Zuma community, located on the border of Bwari Area of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and Kaduna State.
The arrest took place after intelligence led the Anti-Kidnap officers, under the leadership of OC Mustapha Muhammed, to intercept the suspect in the act of transferring the weapons.
The two rifles, identified as CZ Scorpion EVO 3 A1 models, were seized during the operation. The suspect, whose identity remains undisclosed, is currently in custody as investigations continue.
This arrest is part of a wider series of successful operations conducted by the command between January and March 2025.
CP Olatunji Rilwan Disu briefed the press, revealing that the Anti-Kidnap Unit had also neutralized seven kidnappers during clearance operations targeting known bandit routes and hideouts in Gidan-Dogo village and Kweri forest, areas straddling the FCT and Niger State.
During these raids, law enforcement recovered a significant cache of weapons, including 18 AK-47 rifles, 23 AK-47 magazines, nine English pistols, seven other pistols, and 116 rounds of live 9mm ammunition.
Additionally, two dane guns were seized. Several bandits were arrested during the operation.
The command’s proactive measures have had a noticeable impact on curbing criminal activity along the borders of the FCT, Niger, and Nasarawa states.
In total, the FCT Police have arrested 59 armed robbers and neutralized nine of them since the start of the year.
They also captured 10 individuals suspected of being informants for kidnappers.
CP Disu reaffirmed the commitment of the FCT Police Command to dismantle criminal networks and ensure the safety and security of residents across the region.
The ongoing efforts to target criminal hideouts and prevent illegal arms trade reflect the command’s resolve in maintaining public safety.

Four Persons crushed to death others injured as trailer collides with several vehicles
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Anambra Sector Command, has reported that an accident along the Idemili River near the Second Niger Bridge resulted in four fatalities on Tuesday.
The sector Commander, Mrs Joyce Alexander confirmed the incident to newsmen on Thursday, in Awka, attributing the accident to speeding and loss of control, which led to a head-on collision.
Alexander said the crash involved a brown Mercedes trailer without a registration number, a white commercial bus registered as XED526XA, and four Bajaj tricycles that also lacked registration numbers.
She said that eyewitnesses reported that the driver of the brown mercedes trailer, carrying an unsecured container, was descending a hill at high speed when he lost control and collided with five vehicles parked by the roadside.
“A total of six individuals were involved in the crash—two adult males and four adult females. Four were confirmed dead, while two others sustained injuries.
“FRSC officials arrived at the scene to clear the wreckage and restore traffic flow. They transported the deceased to Crown Hospital and St. Edward Hospital in Obosi, while the injured victims were taken to Unity Hospital in Obosi,” she said.
While extending condolences to the families of the deceased, Alexander urged road users to adhere to traffic regulations to prevent accidents and ensure safe travel. She also advised motorists to avoid speeding and take precautions that could compromise their safety on the road.(NAN)
