Jubilation as abducted family regains freedom after Sunday Igboho’s ultimatum
Residents of Igboho in Oyo State erupted in celebration on Saturday after reports emerged that a family abducted by kidnappers had regained freedom following a two-hour ultimatum issued by Yoruba nation agitator, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho.
Videos circulating on social media showed jubilant residents dancing, singing and welcoming the victims back to the community.
The released victims were said to include a pregnant woman, her children and a sibling who had been held captive by suspected kidnappers.
The development followed a tense meeting in the community where Igboho confronted suspected Fulani leaders and other stakeholders over recurring cases of kidnapping and insecurity in the area.
In a video that had earlier gone viral, the activist accused some members of the Fulani community of being linked to abductions and violent crimes against residents.
Referring to one of the reported kidnapping incidents, Igboho alleged that a ransom bearer was killed despite efforts to secure the victims’ release.
“The person who brought the ransom, you still killed him and spared only one person,” he said.
Expressing frustration over the situation, Igboho demanded the immediate release of those still in captivity and gave what he described as a two-hour deadline for their freedom.
“I am Sunday Igboho. I am calm because my fathers asked me to be calm with you. Let this be the last time such a thing will happen,” he warned.
He further cautioned that failure to release the victims would attract decisive action, including a move to invade locations allegedly being used as hideouts by the kidnappers.
Shortly after the ultimatum expired, reports of the victims’ release began to emerge, triggering celebrations across parts of the town.
