I was once an okada man before coming to National Assembly – Senator gives revelations
David Jimkuta, the Senator representing Taraba South, has urged political leaders to remain mindful of their primary support base and constituents, regardless of their elevated status.
Reflecting on his own humble beginnings as a commercial motorcyclist, Jimkuta shared his perspective during an event at the Nigeria Law School in Bwari, Abuja, earlier this week.
At the event, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, made a generous donation of seven vehicles to the institution and inaugurated the construction of ten 4-bedroom bungalows for staff.
Jimkuta, who chairs the Senate Committee on FCT Area Councils and Ancillary Matters, praised Minister Wike for his thoughtful gesture, acknowledging that, as a fellow lawyer, the minister’s contributions to his alma mater were commendable.
“I like what you are doing. Me, before I became a senator, I was once an Okada man and it is in the same spirit that I gave them bikes. As a politician, I give to them because that’s my primary constituency.
“So, what you are doing here, you are encouraging your primary constituency and it is commendable. It’s not politics. Whoever says it’s politics, let him go and try his own luck.
“Honourable Minister, we appreciate you and we support what you are doing in the FCT”, he stated.
During the primary election for the All Progressives Congress (APC), Jimkuta secured the party’s nomination by garnering 170 votes, defeating his opponent, Danjuma Shiddi.
At the time, Shiddi was serving as the incumbent representative for the Wukari/Ibi Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.
