How Billionaire Businesaman settles rift between Alaafin and Ooni
The long-simmering rift between two prominent Yoruba monarchs the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, and the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Owoade has been resolved following the intervention of billionaire businessman and philanthropist, Sir Kessington Adebutu.
The reconciliation took place on Friday at the Eko Hotel and Suites in Lagos, during Adebutu’s 90th birthday celebration.
The nonagenarian, popularly known as “Baba Ijebu,” was said to have personally facilitated the peace meeting between the revered traditional rulers.
In a symbolic gesture of unity, both monarchs signed a joint communiqué announcing the establishment of a Joint Council for Yoruba Unity a new platform dedicated to promoting peace, cultural preservation, and socioeconomic development across Yoruba land.
The communiqué, witnessed by Adebutu and issued by Kola Oyefeso, secretary of the drafting committee, marked the formal end of the reported cold war between the two royal figures.
Observers described the reconciliation as a landmark moment in Yoruba history, symbolizing renewed harmony and collective progress among the region’s traditional institutions.
“Today marks a defining chapter in our shared history,” the communiqué reads.
“We reaffirm our dedication to promoting harmony among all Yoruba sons and daughters, and upholding the sacred values of mutual respect and brotherhood handed down by our ancestors.”
