Herbalist shoots himself in the stomach while testing ‘Bulletproof’ charm
In a bizarre incident that has captured attention in the Federal Capital Territory, herbalist Ismail Usman is currently hospitalised after a reckless attempt to validate the effectiveness of a self-crafted “bulletproof” charm.
On November 23, in Kuchibuyi Village, Usman shot himself in the stomach with a shotgun, believing the charm would protect him from harm.
Josephine Adeh, spokesperson for the FCT Police Command, confirmed the unfortunate event on Saturday.
She reported that a distress call from a local resident, Shandam Michael, prompted officers from the Byazhin Division to respond urgently.
Upon arrival, they found Usman in critical condition and swiftly transported him to Kubwa General Hospital for emergency care. Due to the severity of his injuries, he was later transferred to Gwagwalada Specialist Hospital for further treatment.
Following the incident, police conducted a thorough search of Usman’s residence, where they confiscated the homemade firearm and various charms associated with his ill-fated experiment.
Investigations are ongoing, and Usman is expected to face charges for unlawful possession of firearms and attempted suicide under Section 231 of the Penal Code Law of Northern Nigeria.
Adeh emphasised the importance of community vigilance in light of this incident, urging residents to remain alert and report any suspicious activities.
The Commissioner of Police for the FCT, CP Olatunji Disu, condemned Usman’s actions and highlighted the inherent dangers posed by illegal firearms.
