Group appeals to Sheikhs Al-Ilory, Onikijipa to end public Social Media feud
Two well-known Islamic scholars of Ilorin descent, Sheikh Habeebullah Adam Al-Ilory and the Mufti of Ilorin, Sheikh Sulaiman Faruq Onikijipa, have received a heartfelt appeal from Alhaji Abdullahi Ibrahim, National Coordinator of the Muslim Media Watch Group of Nigeria (MMWG), asking them to stop their ongoing public dispute on social media.
Ibrahim emphasized in a statement that the clerics’ disagreement could and should be settled amicably, without resorting to online accusations and rebuttals.
On behalf of the MMWG, which has been discouraged by the two scholars’ public verbal exchange, he conveyed his embarrassment.
Highlighting the potential dangers of their feud, Ibrahim warned that the escalating tension between the scholars could disrupt the peace of the Ilorin Emirate and the wider Kwara State. He called for a more responsible approach to resolving their issues.
Citing the Qur’an, Ibrahim reminded the clerics of Chapter 2, Verse 44, which cautions religious leaders against hypocrisy, especially when their actions contradict the moral teachings they preach.
The verse warns that leading others astray through such behavior is a grave sign of disbelief in Allah.
Ibrahim also voiced his concern over the timing of the dispute, noting that it is particularly troubling that these public attacks are taking place during the holy month of Ramadan.
