Governor calls for actions from Security Agencies as top aide is violently murdered

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has ordered security agencies to immediately investigate and apprehend the killers of his aide, Sadiq Gentle.

Gentle, who was a Senior Special Reporter for the state’s Ministry of History and Culture, died on Thursday after a brutal attack by suspected hoodlums at his residence in Mazan Kwarai Quarters.

Gentle was known for his active role in promoting Governor Yusuf’s administration on social media.

He was attacked with machetes and clubs by unidentified assailants and later died from his injuries at Murtala Muhammed Specialist Hospital.

His funeral prayer was led by the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, at the Kofar Kudu Emir’s Palace.

In a statement signed by his spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, Governor Yusuf expressed deep sadness over the loss, describing Gentle as a “dedicated and patriotic social media professional”.

The governor called the murder a tragedy and “an affront to our collective humanity,” condemning the act as “heinous, barbaric, and utterly unacceptable.” He demanded that security agencies find the killers without delay.

The incident has sparked public outrage and renewed calls for action against rising thuggery in Kano. Residents are urging the governor to take bold steps to end political thuggery and violent crime.

Some have suggested harsh measures, while others have warned that citizens may resort to self-defense if authorities fail to protect them.

Gentle’s killing occurred just one day after another fatal attack in the state, where a 300-level student from Bayero University Kano (BUK), Umar Abdullahi Hafizi, was stabbed to death by suspected phone snatchers.

In response to the surge in violent crime, including gang rivalries and phone theft, the Kano State Police Command has launched Operation Kukan Kura to curb insecurity in the state.
