As Niger state keep suffering from bandits’ attack, the governor of the state, Abubakar Sani Bello, who is also the chairman of the North Central Governors, have consulted the 5 states that shares common boundary in order to deal with the bandit attacks collectively.

The governor disclosed this while addressing newsmen shortly after a meeting with COVID-19 Taskforce Committee and other stakeholders at the Government House, Minna, yesterday. He explained that the state is in talk with its counterparts in Kebbi, Kaduna, Katsina, Sokoto and Zamfara states on how to deal with the bandits.

The governor, who is disturbed by the attack of the bandits even after providing amnesty for them claimed that forming the alliance with the 5 states is a good way of putting an end to the bandits’ continual attacks. According to him,  “it has become clear and obvious that the amnesty programme for some of the bandits is not working”.

The governor also claimed that all civilised approach that has been used so far by the government, amnesty included, have not yield any positive result, giving the government a reason to devise other means on how to stop the attacks as farmers and local people are denied the chance to work.

According to him, famine looms if it continues like this and that brings about the interstate approach. “The danger here is that the bandits have refused to let our local people, our farmers to operate…we are heading towards famine and starvation,” he warned.

In a bid to end the attacks, he said that a teleconference is being organised with the governors of Niger, Zamfara, Kebbi, Kaduna, Sokoto and Katsina states that share common boundaries and were being terrorised by bandits.

All these efforts, according to him, is to find a solution to the havoc caused by the bandits within the shortest possible time.
