Fubara visits FCT Minister Wike again, seeks reconciliation over Rivers crisis
Suspended Governor of Rivers State, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has reportedly reached out once again to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, in a renewed effort to mend their fractured political relationship.
Sources revealed that Fubara visited Wike at his Abuja residence on Monday for a private peace meeting, though the details of their discussion remain undisclosed.
The meeting comes amid renewed calls from political figures and stakeholders for Fubara’s reinstatement and an end to the ongoing emergency rule in the state.
Some of the governor’s allies had anticipated that President Bola Tinubu would announce the lifting of the suspension and terminate the emergency rule during his Democracy Day address at the National Assembly.
Among them was Senator Seriake Dickson, who publicly expressed disappointment over the President’s silence on the matter.
Dickson criticised the continued imposition of emergency rule, describing the current governance structure in Rivers State as resembling military rule, led by an administrator who is a retired military officer.
His comments, however, triggered a swift backlash from the Rivers State caucus in the National Assembly. The lawmakers, led by Rep. Kingsley Chinda, condemned Dickson’s remarks and questioned his authority to speak on the matter.
Chinda defended the emergency measures as necessary for restoring stability in the state and pointed out that Fubara himself had recently expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for the intervention.
The caucus further accused Dickson of misleading Fubara into taking actions that contributed to his suspension.
They also called on the Senate Committee on Ethics to launch an investigation into what they described as Dickson’s “un-parliamentary utterances.”
