Peter Obi’s supporters unveil ‘village boys movement’ to counter Tinubu’s ‘city boys’ Movement
Supporters of former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, have launched a grassroots mobilisation platform ahead of the 2027 presidential election, signalling an early build-up to the next electoral cycle.
The group, branded the ‘Village Boys Movement’, was unveiled in Abuja on Thursday as what organisers describe as a value-driven alternative to the ‘City Boys Movement’ championed by Seyi Tinubu in support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid.
Addressing supporters at the launch, the convener, Maazị Tochukwu Ezeoke, who styled himself as a ‘Village Headmaster’, said the movement was rooted in principles of discipline, productivity and ethical leadership.
According to him, the platform “represents a Nigeria that works before it earns and earns before it spends”.
Ezeoke dismissed suggestions that the initiative was designed to antagonise urban political structures, insisting it was driven by values rather than geography.
He said the movement was “not hostility toward cities”, but a “moral contrast”.
“The issue is not geography but the source of wealth, the ethics of leadership, and the structure of accountability,” he added.
