FG to spend over N600m worth of upgrade, solar road projects for 9 Monarch’s Palace’s across Nigeria

In the proposed 2025 federal budget, Nigerians are set to see significant upgrades to nine royal palaces and the roads around them, as part of a range of planned federal interventions.

These improvements are designed to address a variety of needs, including palace renovations, road construction, solar light installations, and measures to combat ecological challenges affecting palace grounds.

The budget includes both new and ongoing projects, with five fresh initiatives earmarked for swift implementation across different ministries, while four ongoing projects will continue their development.

Leading the list of proposed interventions, with an allocation of N400 million, are the renovations of the Alamuwo of Kuje Amuwo Palace in Lagos State and the Alawe of Ilawe Ekiti Palace in Ekiti State.

These projects will be managed by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development.

Close behind in terms of funding, a new initiative to repair the Offa Palace to Ariku Oko Road in Kwara State is proposed at N100 million, under the Ministry of Works.

Additionally, there are plans for climate-responsive initiatives.

A new project will install solar-powered boreholes at the Chief Palace area Bmuko in Bwari Area Council, at a cost of N15.5 million, and another will install a motorised borehole near the Ter Makrdi Palace in Benue State, at N10.41 million.

These projects will be overseen by the Lower Benue River Basin Development Authority, under the Ministry of Water Resources.

In terms of renewable energy, the Olosi Palace and surrounding areas in Osi, Kwara State, will see solar-powered lighting installations under an ongoing project, valued at N30 million, to be executed by the National Rural Electrification Agency, part of the Ministry of Power.

Also ongoing, the Ministry of Environment has proposed N30 million for erosion control work on the road leading to the Mbiabong Ikot Etim Royal Palace in Akwa Ibom State.

Further funding is allocated for infrastructure, with two projects each receiving N40 million. One involves the construction of a town hall at Isinkan, near the Iralepo Palace in Akure, Ondo State.

The other focuses on the rehabilitation of the Tal District Head Palace in Gombe State, both projects to be managed by the respective local authorities and specialized development agencies.

Finally, the Iga Idungaran Old Oba of Lagos Palace and the Zaria City Walls in Kaduna are set to receive N10 million for preservation and enhancement, as part of a new initiative led by the National Commission for Museums and Monuments.

These federal interventions reflect a comprehensive approach to preserving Nigeria’s royal heritage while addressing key infrastructural and environmental needs across the country.
