Governor explains why he made u-turn changed his position to support Tax Reforms Bill

Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has shed light on his decision to reverse his opposition to the controversial tax reforms bill, stating that his concerns had been addressed through further discussions and revisions.

In an appearance on Channels TV’s ‘Politics Today’ programme, Governor Sule, one of the prominent northern political figures initially critical of the bill, clarified that his opposition was never against tax reforms in principle, but rather with the bill’s initial provisions.

He emphasised that the primary goal was to ensure the bill underwent a thorough review before being passed.

“We have achieved our goal, and that’s why today, I speak differently. We wanted the bill to be discussed more extensively, not passed in its original form. Now, there are provisions for further review, and I commend the House of Representatives, especially the Speaker, for their approach to handling this matter,” Sule explained.

The governor expressed satisfaction with how lawmakers, particularly those in the House of Representatives, have responded to the concerns raised, highlighting that these discussions had led to a more comprehensive evaluation of the bill.
