I know nothing about alleged $57.5b World Bank loan for Biafra — Okonjo Iweala cries out
Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Director-General of the World Trade Organization, has categorically denied allegations regarding her role in facilitating a $57.5 billion loan for the Biafra Republic Government in Exile.
The claims emerged from a post by separatist leader Simon Ekpa on October 23, 2024, which suggested that the World Bank and International Monetary Fund were set to provide the loan with Okonjo-Iweala’s assistance.
Ekpa further asserted that the funds were intended to support the establishment of a new government in anticipation of a proposed Biafra independence declaration on December 2, 2024.
He claimed: “The World Bank and IMF have agreed to loan the sum of $57.5 billion to Biafra Republic Government in Exile (BRGIE) to form our government after December 2nd 2024 declaration of Biafra. I thank our sister, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala for helping me to facilitate the loan.”
Reacting via a terse statement on X, Okonjo-Iweala, wrote: “I know no sensible person will believe what is contained in the outrageous tweet below but in these troubled times it is important to underscore that the statement is false. Again I enjoin all those seeking to misuse my name to desist!.”
