Buhari’s Minister denies defection rumour from APC says he won’t defect in secret

Ex-Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, has denied rumours claiming he has left the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the Social Democratic Party (SDP).

In a statement issued by his media aide, Mohammed Bello Doka, Malami reaffirmed his membership in the APC, stressing that he would never switch political parties in secret.

“Malami is a prominent figure in Nigeria, therefore, cannot defect to any party in secret,” the statement said.

“He is still in APC but in a broad consultations with different platforms. Until the consultations are over, it is premature to talk about defection or declaration of interest.”

The statement also emphasised that Malami remains active in politics and will publicly announce his next move at the appropriate time.

“Malami has right to belong to any political party and to contest any position in Kebbi State,” Doka added.
