Emergency Rule; Tinubu scaring Govs who may not support him ahead of 2027 – Amaechi

Former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, has leveled serious accusations against President Bola Tinubu, alleging that the declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers is a political maneuver aimed at intimidating potential adversaries ahead of the 2027 elections.

In an exclusive interview with an international news outlet, Amaechi claimed that the ongoing crisis in Rivers State is deeply rooted in a financial dispute between the state’s political leaders, rather than the narrative being promoted by the government.

According to Amaechi, the conflict is centered around the allocation and control of state funds, with former Governor Nyesom Wike and the current Governor Siminalayi Fubara at odds over financial resources.

Amaechi has questioned the constitutionality of the state of emergency, asserting that it violates legal principles.

He accused President Tinubu of acting outside the bounds of the Constitution, suggesting that the move is part of a broader strategy to suppress political opposition ahead of the 2027 general election.

As a potential remedy, Amaechi proposed two courses of action. First, he called on governors from the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to challenge the suspension of Governor Fubara in court.

Second, he urged Nigerians to unite in a national protest to demand an end to what he called an “illegal suspension.”

The fight between the former governor (Wike) and the current governor (Fubara) is about sharing money. The President (Tinubu) acted outside of the constitution,” Amaechi remarked, emphasising that the president’s actions were unconstitutional and politically motivated.

Moreover, Amaechi pointed fingers at both President Tinubu and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) as the masterminds behind the ongoing political crisis in the state, asserting that their involvement has exacerbated the situation.

Amaechi reminded the public that, as the nation’s constitutional head of security, President Tinubu should not be shifting the blame for the political unrest onto the suspended Governor Fubara.
