EFCC chairman Olukoyede denies forcing NNPCL boss Ojulari to resign from office

The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, has publicly denied claims that he and the Director General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Adeola Ajayi, forced the Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Bayo Ojulari, to resign.

The denial comes in response to a news report alleging that Olukoyede and Ajayi pressured Ojulari into signing a resignation letter during a private meeting in Abuja.

The report also claimed that Ojulari was interrogated about his alleged ties to British-Nigerian oil mogul, Olatimbo Ayinde, who is reportedly close to senior officials in the current administration.

In a statement released on Wednesday by EFCC spokesman Dele Oyewale, Olukoyede’s lawyer, Adeyinka Olumide-Fusika (SAN), described the allegations as “defamatory and injurious to his integrity.”

The statement emphasised that the publications were “damning” and could not be ignored.

The EFCC chairman further clarified that he has not “betrayed public trust” by allowing the authority of his office to be influenced by Olatimbo Ayinde.

Olukoyede has demanded a public apology and the complete removal of the story from the media outlet’s platforms within 48 hours, threatening to take legal action if his demands are not met.
