Labour Party calls ADC yahoo yahoo Party says choice of Peter Obi as Presidential candidate in 2023 a big error

The Labour Party (LP) has announced that its presidential ticket for the 2027 general election is open to all aspirants, with a firm commitment to unbiased primary elections.

This declaration was made by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Abayomi Arabambi, during a press briefing in Abuja on Friday.

The move comes as a significant shift from the party’s 2023 approach, which saw Peter Obi emerge as its presidential candidate.

Obi, who garnered substantial support and won in 12 states including the Federal Capital Territory, ultimately placed third in the election according to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) results.

Arabambi explicitly stated, “There shall be primary elections in the Labour Party, and no aspirant will be favored this time around.”

He characterised Obi’s selection in 2023 as a “blunder with lasting consequences and a betrayal of Nigerians,” emphasizing the party’s determination to rectify this error before 2027.

Despite still being a member of the Labour Party, Peter Obi recently joined a coalition movement under the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and has indicated his intention to contest the 2027 presidential election.

Arabambi also took a strong stance against the coalition actors, labeling them “Yahoo Yahoo politicians” and blaming them for the economic hardships experienced in Nigeria since 2015.

This suggests a clear rejection of alliances with certain political figures or groups by the Labour Party as it prepares for the next election cycle.

He added, “Instead of a leader with debt and discipline and demonstrable progress for national renewal, Nigeria got a populist, whose greatest skill is telling people what they want to hear.

“The 2027 election must not repeat this error even as Peter Obi has ported from Labour Party to ADC.

“Nigerians are in fact wishing him well in that ungodly coalition because these are the same coalition that brought catastrophe on Nigerians between 2015 and 2023. Such a coalition must be rejected.

“We wish Obi well in his yahoo yahoo coalition but to let him know that the Labour Party presidential ticket is now open to all Nigerians.

“There shall be primary election this time around, and no aspirant would be favoured.”
