Cursing someone online is cyber bullying, punishable under Law- Force PRO
Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Police Force, has strongly criticized the act of directing curses at individuals online, asserting that such behavior amounts to cyberbullying and is a criminal offense.
In a Friday post via his X handle, Adejobi explained that using abusive and harsh language to target someone online goes beyond the boundaries of free expression or legitimate criticism.
He stated, “Cursing someone online is cyberbullying, not an exercise of freedom or criticism. Cyberbullying, distinct from defamation, is a criminal act and subject to punishment. Let this be a reminder.”
Felix Abayomi, who goes by #felabayomi on X, questioned the post, asking, “When does cursing someone online become a crime? I’m eager to see someone challenge these laws one day.”
In response, an anonymous user known as #kingkhone4real argued, “If that’s the case, then all Nigerians should be in prison by now.”
On the other hand, #omoopee_ defended Adejobi’s position, stating, “You are absolutely right, sir.
“Cursing and cyberbullying are not forms of expression but acts of harm. We must all learn to express ourselves in a more responsible way.”
