Church cancels wedding over bride’s alleged refusal to spend night in Host Pastor’s House
A wedding scheduled to take place at the Assemblies of God Church, Okpu 2, in Aba, Abia State, was abruptly cancelled over the weekend after the bride allegedly failed to comply with the church’s pre-marriage requirements.
According to reports, the bride declined to stay overnight at the church parsonage, where she was expected to undergo counseling from the officiating pastor’s wife on the eve of the ceremony, an established part of the church’s marriage tradition.
In line with Assemblies of God Church practices, a pregnancy test was also to be conducted before the wedding.
The bride, reportedly aware of these requirements and initially in agreement, failed to appear for the scheduled preparations.
Promise Uzoma Okoro, who shared details of the incident, stated that the bride’s refusal to follow the church’s procedures led to the cancellation.
“Guests had already gathered for the ceremony when the church leadership announced the decision,” he said.
It remains unclear whether the couple later sought to be joined in marriage at another location or by a different officiant.
Guests who had travelled to attend the ceremony were left disappointed and confused.
As of the time of this report, neither the church nor the couple has issued an official statement regarding the incident.
