How gunmen killed 20 people in 3 States

Kaduna, Katsina and Benue communities witnessed banditry attacks on Wednesday as over 20 people were reportedly killed by gunmen in separate attacks.

According to DAILYTRUST, four local government areas of Safana, Dutsinma, Batsari and Faskari were attacked separately in Katsina state, with 16 people killed and 4 people kidnapped.

The gunmen, who attacked the council areas on motorcycles were said to announce their arrival by shooting gun into the air sporadically.

Dan Jukka was attacked and a total of 6 people were killed, and 5 people were killed in Salihawar Kalgo. Both villages were said to be in Safana Local Government Area.

In the same fashion, one person was killed at Dullu village in Batsari LGA and two brothers were killed at Maitsani village of Dutsinma LGA.

In Faskari LGA, one person was killed at Unguwar Buntu, two at Gidan Baki village while at Dogon Awo, one person was shot and had been hospitalised.

Speaking on the incident, the spokesman of the state’s Police Command, SP Gambo Isah, confirmed that five persons were killed at Dan Jukku and two each at Maitsani and Gidan Baki.

Furthermore, two attacks which were seen as reprisal between suspected herdsmen and the local community of Makyelli village occured in Kaduna state.

It was reported that seven people were killed at Makyelli village, in Kufana District of Kajuru Local Government Area. This attack was said to have followed an attack at another community which claimed five lives on Tuesday evening.

According to a source who spoke on the level of anonymity in the area, said Makyelli village was a stone throw from Gonan Rogo in Kufana District.

“It is unfortunate what is happening around this area because both attacks were reprisal from both sides following the killings in Gonan Rogo village on Monday night.

“Some angry locals went into the bush and killed five people on Tuesday and early this morning (Wednesday), suspected herdsmen invaded Makyelli village killing seven people,” he claimed.

‎The Police Command Public Relations Officer, ASP Mohammed Jalige, asked for time to investigate before making comments.

In Benue, the police command confirmed an attack on Tse-Haaga village, Mbabai in Guma Local Government Area by unknown gunmen which claimed four lives with three other persons injured.

At a special sitting on security in the assembly in Katsina on Monday, the Deputy Speaker of Katsina House of Assembly, Engr. Shehu Tafoki, explained in tears to the house that hardly a day passed without reported attack across the state resulting in death, kidnapping and maiming of innocent citizens.
