BREAKING; PDP is dead — Senator Dino Melaye laments
The leadership crisis within the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) intensified on Saturday as former Kogi West Senator Dino Melaye predicted the party’s imminent collapse.
Melaye accused the acting national chairman, Iliya Damagum, along with national secretary Samuel Anyanwu and national organizing secretary Umar Bature, of irreparably damaging the party.
In a post on X, Melaye claimed that these leaders have commercialized and privatised the PDP, declaring, “The end of the road for PDP as Damagum, Bature, and Anyanwu irredeemably destroyed the party. We will discuss the commercialization and privatization of PDP. PDP is now a thing of the past.”
Amid these accusations, there were signs that the PDP National Working Committee (NWC) might discipline Damagum and Anyanwu for allegedly submitting a contentious letter to the Court of Appeal in Port Harcourt, which was perceived as undermining the party.
Some leaders within the party, including members of the National Executive Committee (NEC), have called for action against them.
In response, Damagum rejected the calls for his resignation, asserting that attempts to intimidate him only bolster his standing.
He vowed to address the situation at an appropriate time and criticized those spreading falsehoods about the NWC’s operations.
During the inauguration of the National Reconciliation and Disciplinary Committees, Damagum addressed the rumors, stating, “To those spreading negativity about me—Damagum this, Damagum that—I cannot be intimidated. The more you mention me, the more popular I become.”
