BREAKING; Osun State Governor Adeleke announces new Party after defection from PDP

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has formally defected to the Accord Party, less than 24 hours before the party’s 2026 governorship primary scheduled for Wednesday.

On Tuesday evening, Accord Party flags were mounted at the Osun State Government House, where Adeleke held a meeting with leaders of his former party.

Adeleke, who left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) amid an internal leadership crisis, announced his move while addressing members of the State Executive Council, top government officials, and Accord Party leaders at the Government House in Osogbo.

Adeleke while announcing his defection said: “I joined the Accord Party more than a month ago precisely November 6th as a platform to seek re-election in 2026. This was after weeks of consultation and deliberations with stakeholders and opinion leaders.

“Stakeholders and residents of Osun state are aware of why we are taking this important decision. We intend to pursue a second term in office on the platform of the Accord Party to complete ongoing delivery of good governance and democratic dividends which have been applauded at home and abroad.

“We opted for the Accord Party because its mission of welfarism aligns with our passionate focus on citizens and workers’ welfare.”

Continuing, the governor said he has been fascinated by the philosophy of Accord party since he joined, expressing optimism that the party emerge victorious in the August 2026 gubernatorial election in the state.

“I welcome our party leaders into the Osun state Government House. You are now part of us as I am also now part of you. We are united in progress and good intentions for the good people of Osun state and Nigeria at large.

“At this historical point, our task is to sustain a united front as we prepare for the elections. We have a duty to ensure an inclusive leadership where the interests of all groups are cared for. Our party, Accord Party, is here to take over Osun governance and sustain the delivery of good governance in our dear state.

“Since I joined the party more than a month ago, I have been fascinated by the philosophy of this great party. The focus on people’s welfare should always be at the heart of public leadership. The primary essence of a government is the welfare and well being of the people.

“As a governor, I have prioritized the welfare of our people, from workers to the entire citizenry. Day and night, we implement policies and programmes to elevate the well being of our people. From infrastructure to social services, Osun has never had it so good in governance and service delivery.

“Today, we unveil the new platform for the good people of Osun state. From Osun West to Osun East to Osun Central, this is our party, our new platform for victory come August next year.

“From Igbomina to Ijeshaland to Ifeland to Osogbo to Iwoland to Modakeke to Gbongan to Igbajo to Ikire to Ikirun to Ede and other lands of Osun state, we must thumb up according to our collective desires for good governance.

Nigerian Army rescues 360 women, children kidnapped by suspected gunmen

The Nigerian Army troops of Operation Hadin Kai, in conjunction with Special Operations Forces, have rescued the 360 civilians, mainly women and children, abducted by terrorists from Ngoshe community in Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno.

Maj.-Gen. Abdulsalam Abubakar, Theatre Commander of the North East Joint Task Force Operation Hadin Kai, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the rescue followed a coordinated special operation conducted on June 6 across multiple fronts around the Mandara Mountains.

According to him, Special Operations Forces initially carried out preliminary missions that created confusion within terrorist camps, paving the way for ground troops of the 26 Task Force Brigade to extract the captives successfully

“The rescued civilians were among residents abducted during a terrorist attack on Ngoshe community on March 3, 2026.

“However, the operation recorded a tragic setback as two infants died during the rescue effort due to the harsh and difficult terrain encountered while moving the victims to safety,” he said.

He added that all rescued persons underwent immediate medical screening upon arrival, while those requiring urgent medical attention were stabilised by brigade medical personnel and admitted to the General Hospital in Gwoza for treatment.

“The victims were also provided with food and water before being moved to a secure holding facility pending their handover to relevant authorities and reunification with their families,” he said. (NAN)

Abducted retired Army General, Wife plead for help in new released video

A week after their abduction in Katsina State, retired Major General Abubakar Rabe and his wife have appealed to government authorities to intervene and secure their freedom.

The appeal was contained in a video released by their captors and circulated on social media, showing the couple in captivity.

In the footage, which lasts just over four minutes, the retired military officer and his wife were seen standing as they relayed conditions reportedly set by the kidnappers for their release.

Speaking in the video, Hajiya Amina Abubakar, wife of the retired general, said the abductors were demanding the release of three individuals identified as Sani, Aminu and Nasiru.

According to her, the kidnappers also want the return of livestock allegedly confiscated from them.

She claimed that two of the individuals whose release was being sought were arrested in Jikamshi, while the third was arrested in Kano.

The woman appealed to the Katsina State Government and authorities in five local government areas to assist in meeting the demands of the abductors in order to secure their freedom.

In his brief remarks, the retired general urged efforts toward peace, saying the kidnappers had indicated a willingness to engage in dialogue and peaceful coexistence.

Notably, no ransom demand was mentioned in the video.

Neither the Katsina State Government nor security agencies had issued an official response to the footage as of the time of filing this report.

The former army officer, his wife and their driver, Abdullahi Sa’idu, were abducted on June 6 while travelling to Katsina.

The incident occurred along the Marabar Musawa–Kafinsoli axis in Matazu Local Government Area after armed men reportedly ambushed their vehicle near Zakin Baure village.

Witnesses said the attackers emerged from hiding, blocked the road and opened fire on the vehicle, forcing it to stop.

Sources familiar with the incident said the driver sustained a gunshot wound to his hand during the attack but was later spared by the gunmen.

Meanwhile, reports indicate that a notorious bandit leader identified as Kachallah Muhammad has established contact with relatives of the victims.

Sources told Daily Trust the suspected kingpin, who operates in parts of Katsina State, reportedly opened communication with the family shortly after the abduction, although details of the discussions remain unclear.

BREAKING; Police rescue Adelabu’s sister, twin sons alive, kill two kidnappers

Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force have rescued Mrs. Olaide Busayo Adegoke John-Paul and her 12-year-old twin sons, Peter and Paul, during a rescue operation conducted on Saturday evening, three days after they were abducted in Oyo State.

The victims, including the younger sister of former Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, were freed at about 7:30 p.m. following sustained intelligence-led operations by security personnel.

Police sources said two suspected kidnappers were killed during a gun battle with operatives, while two firearms were recovered from the gang.

Mrs. John-Paul and her children were reportedly kidnapped at about 7:30 a.m. on June 3 while on their way to school.

According to security sources, intelligence gathering and continuous tactical pressure mounted on the kidnappers forced the criminals into a confrontation with police operatives, leading to the successful rescue of the victims.

The victims were rescued unharmed and have since been reunited with their family.

Meanwhile, security operatives have launched a manhunt for other members of the kidnapping syndicate who escaped during the operation.
