BREAKING; Nnamdi Kanu sues police spokesperson, Adejobi for N20b defamation

The incarcerated leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has sued ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Force Public Relations Officer, in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court in Abuja for defamation and is asking N20 billion in damages.

A contentious police press release that went viral online and in major newspapers is the basis for the case.

The statement accused IPOB and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN), of being responsible for violent crimes in Imo State, including attacks on law enforcement agencies and kidnapping activities.

According to court filings, the police statement also claimed the neutralization of six individuals alleged to be members of IPOB/ESN during a recent operation.

These individuals were described as involved in terrorist activities, further linking Kanu’s organization to violent crimes.

Kanu, through his legal team, contends that these statements by ACP Adejobi were defamatory, maliciously portraying him as the leader of a terrorist group and associating him with criminal behavior.

He argues that the false and damaging publication has severely tarnished his reputation, both domestically and internationally, where he commands significant support.

In addition to seeking a public retraction and apology in the same media outlets that originally published the statements, Kanu is requesting a court declaration that the statements were libelous.

He has also demanded a permanent injunction preventing ACP Adejobi from making similar statements in the future.

The suit includes a claim for N20 billion in general and exemplary damages for the harm caused to Kanu’s reputation, as well as for the impact on his ongoing legal battle regarding IPOB’s designation as a terrorist organization.
